Saffron, extracted from the styles and stigmas of the saffron crocus (Crocus sativus), is one of the oldest known and most precious spices. It has been used for its characteristic taste and colour in various cuisines worldwide for over 4000 years. Moreover, it has traditionally been widely used for its healthy properties.
Quality
Saffron is called 'red gold' because of its preciousness. Unfortunately, the high price of the raw material means that saffron of inferior quality is also offered on the market. The origin, production method and purity of saffron are decisive for its quality and effectiveness.
Saffron-LCS Organic (which stands for Lepticrosalides®, see below) contains the high-quality extract Affron®. Both the cultivation of the unsprayed, organic saffron and the manufacture of the saffron extract take place at producer Pharmactive in Spain. Because the entire production chain is managed in-house, ideal growing conditions can be ensured and quality can be guaranteed. The producer also (not without reason!) has external parties perform DNA tests on their saffron as additional confirmation that Affron® is made from 100% real saffron.
Patented extraction method and composition
From the pure raw material, a specially developed extraction method yields an extract standardized to 3.5% Lepticrosalides®, a patented complex of the most important active ingredients in saffron (such as safranal, crocin and picrocrocin). A correct analysis method is of great importance to accurately measure the active ingredients in a saffron extract and to avoid a distorted picture. It is quite unique in the saffron world that the HPLC analysis method (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) is used for Affron®.
Organic
The active ingredients of organic food supplements are guaranteed to be of natural origin and not synthetically manufactured. In addition, the production takes into account the environment, animals and people as much as possible. Various regulations define what this entails. Among other things, no chemical pesticides, artificial fertilizers or genetically modified organisms are used. The Skal Biocontrole institute checks whether the regulations are complied with and whether a product can be called organic. Organic products are recognizable by the code NL-BIO-01 and the European organic label.
