Vitals Psyllium fibers organic Psyllium is a natural source of soluble and fermentable fiber. It is extracted from the seed husks of the Plantago ovata plant, which is primarily grown in India. Psyllium fiber can absorb up to ten times its own weight in water. It cannot be broken down by digestive enzymes in the small intestine and therefore arrives intact in the large intestine. Thanks to its high water solubility, it can be broken down (fermented) by the intestinal flora in the large intestine, producing, among other things, short-chain fatty acids (such as butyrate). Other soluble fibers are mainly found in vegetables, fruits, legumes, and grains such as oats. The recommended total daily intake of dietary fiber is 30-40 grams for adults. People with insufficient fiber intake can use psyllium fiber as a dietary supplement. Psyllium can be taken with (plenty of) water, but it can also be absorbed through food. Psyllium is also a good gluten substitute in recipes and can be used as a binding agent in bread (approximately 4 grams per 500 grams of flour), healthy snacks, sauces, and soups. Psyllium can also be added to smoothies or breakfast cereals, for example.
Organic
The active ingredients in organic food supplements are guaranteed to be of natural origin and not synthetically manufactured. Furthermore, the environment, animals, and people are taken into account as much as possible during production. Various regulations define what this means. For example, no chemical pesticides, fertilizers, or genetically modified organisms are used. The Skal Biocontrole institute monitors compliance with these regulations and whether a product may be called organic. Organic products are recognizable by the code NL-BIO-01 and the European organic quality mark.
