Vitals MSM powdersulfur and also contains two methyl groups. MSM is naturally found in rainwater, fresh fruit, and fresh vegetables (1 to 4 mg MSM per kg). MSM is relatively volatile and easily disappears with heating or prolonged storage. Breast milk is the richest natural source of MSM.
MSM needed for life on Earth
The importance of MSM for life on Earth is great. Without MSM, life on Earth as we know it would not exist. MSM is formed in nature as part of the Earth's sulfur cycle: algae and plant plankton in the oceans massively absorb inorganic sulfur from seawater and convert it into a simple organic form. When algae and plankton die, enzymes break down the organic sulfur compounds into dimethyl sulfide (DMS). This substance is volatile and does not dissolve well in water. It therefore collects high in the atmosphere, where it is converted into dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and further into methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) under the influence of ultraviolet light and ozone. DMSO and MSM are highly soluble in water. They form the condensation nuclei needed for the formation of raindrops. Without DMSO and MSM in the air, no clouds would form, and it would not rain. Roots of trees and plants are able to absorb DMSO and MSM quickly and efficiently from rainwater.
Production method
Although MSM is a natural substance, it would be impractical to extract MSM naturally. So many trees would have to be cut down, which would not be desirable. The raw materials currently used are DMSO, water, and hydrogen peroxide. Through a complex process, DMSO is then converted into MSM. It is crucial that the production method used leads to a pure end product. Unfortunately, this is not always self-evident in MSM production. The expensive distillation method, which effectively removes any contaminants that may be present in the raw materials, is absolutely preferred in this respect over the often-used (much cheaper) crystallization method.
Quality of OptiMSM®
Vitals MSM Powder contains no excipients and consists of 100% pure MSM with the brand name OptiMSM® from Bergstrom Nutrition. For decades, Bergstrom has invested in research into the development, improvement, function, production, use, and safety of OptiMSM®. This is a continuous process where the highest quality serves as the standard. For example, only the best materials and raw materials are used for the production process. In addition, Bergstrom applies a unique multi-stage distillation method that is considered superior within the industry. Production takes place at one location, namely in North America. The production facility is exclusively used for the production of MSM. After each production step, tests are performed by an independent laboratory. In this way, quality is guaranteed throughout the entire production process, and the end result is a very high-quality MSM product, namely OptiMSM®. All comparative tests have shown OptiMSM ® to be the purest.
