Vitals L-Arginine 500mgApproximately five hundred amino acids occur in nature. Twenty of these are amino acids that serve as building blocks for proteins in the human body; these are referred to as ‘fundamental amino acids’. These fundamental amino acids can be further divided into the categories ‘essential’, ‘semi-essential’, and ‘non-essential’. L-arginine belongs to the so-called semi-essential amino acids, meaning that the body can partly produce it itself, and to meet daily needs, it is partly dependent on diet. Adults can produce arginine themselves from the amino acids ornithine, glutamine, glutamate, and proline; nevertheless, the amount of arginine in food significantly contributes to the total arginine supply. For children and adolescents, arginine is an essential amino acid because biosynthesis is still too low.
L-arginine is incorporated into proteins and can be converted into other amino acids (such as ornithine and proline). Additionally, arginine is the only precursor for nitric oxide (NO), a biochemical signaling molecule. Arginine is also a precursor for creatine and polyamines.
This product uses the natural L-form and not the synthetic D-form.
