Vitals Iron 25mg with Vitamin C This product contains iron in the form of iron bisglycinate. Each iron particle is strongly bound (chelated) to two (bis) molecules of the amino acid glycine. The general term for such a compound is amino acid chelate or amino acid chelated mineral. The word "chelate" comes from the Greek and means "claw."
This compound was chosen because it is gentle on the stomach (which is not the case with most iron compounds) and because of its exceptionally good bioavailability. The formula is also supplemented with vitamin C in the form of ascorbic acid to further promote iron absorption. The iron bisglycinate in this product is branded Ferrochel® and comes from Albion Minerals, the specialist in amino acid-bound minerals.
Albion Minerals
Vitals uses only genuine amino acid chelates from Albion Minerals, recognizable by the trademark TRAACS®, which stands for The Real Amino Acid Chelate System. This brand was created to clearly differentiate itself from other, potentially inferior, unstable amino acid chelates. Albion has filed over 100 patents worldwide that guarantee the process, science, and structure of their amino acid chelated minerals. Furthermore, research is conducted on their minerals, and quality assurance is performed on every batch produced. It is essential to verify that chelation has actually occurred and that the bonds are strong enough.
Benefits of Amino Acid Chelated Minerals
The chelate structure in an amino acid chelate is strong enough not to be broken down by gastric juice or digestive enzymes (as is typically the case with other mineral compounds), but also weak enough to allow the mineral to be released once absorbed by the intestinal cells. The amino acids wrap around the mineral, protecting it during the digestive process and preventing it from detaching. The chelate's electrical charge is also neutral, preventing it from adhering to food particles in the stomach and intestines. The amino acid chelate thus reaches the small intestine intact, where it is absorbed as a dipeptide (a compound containing two amino acids). This is very advantageous because the body can absorb amino acids (and dipeptides in particular) very easily, especially if they consist of the smallest amino acid, glycine. This makes amino acid chelated minerals much more absorbable than other mineral forms. In the epithelial tissue of the jejunum (middle portion of the small intestine), the amino acid-chelated mineral is delivered to the mucous cells by active transport, without competing with other minerals. Only in the mucous cells do metabolic processes ensure that the glycine and the mineral are split and become available to the various organs and systems in the body.

Usage Take 1 capsule per day between meals with plenty of water or as advised.
Kidney patients should not take more than 200 mg of vitamin C per day because of, among other things, the risk of hyperoxalemia (too high a concentration of oxalic acid in the blood).
High iron intake by young children can be toxic.
If multiple capsules are swallowed, consult a doctor immediately.
