Elke Dag Mama Capsules are designed for women who prefer capsules to tablets. Each two capsules of Elke Dag Mama Capsules contain exactly the same dosages as the Elke Dag Mama Tablets, with the exception of choline (110 mg instead of 150 mg), vitamin C (80 mg instead of 200 mg), calcium (120 mg instead of 200 mg), and magnesium (60 mg instead of 100 mg). These are in lower doses in the capsules, simply because one tablet contains more than two capsules.
What's new?
Progressive insights have led to further improvements to the formula. Due to the significantly higher bioavailability of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) compared to "regular" (synthetic) folic acid, a reduction from 600 to 400 mcg is possible. Several other ingredients have also been reviewed and adjusted downwards where possible (particularly the B vitamins), while still achieving generous dosages. This has created room for increasing the intake of other important nutrients (especially for pregnant women), such as choline, vitamin C, vitamin K2, calcium, and magnesium.
Vitamin A should not be missing in a pregnancy multivitamin
Many pregnant women are warned about the dangers of too much vitamin A. However, vitamin A requirements are higher during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Therefore, it's important not to be too cautious with vitamin A intake. Elke Dag Mama therefore contains 150 mcg of vitamin A in addition to 3 mg of natural beta-carotene (provitamin A). This is a desirable and very safe dose of vitamin A. Furthermore, the body will not convert more beta-carotene into vitamin A than it needs, thus preventing excessively high vitamin A levels.
Optimal dosages to meet increased needs during pregnancy
Women are advised to take folic acid supplements for at least one month before conception and throughout pregnancy. Elke Dag Mama uses a superior, biologically active form of folic acid (folate) bound to glucosamine salt (Quatrefolic®). The binding with glucosamine salt allows the biologically active form to remain stable and ensures optimal absorption. The formula contains 400 mcg of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate per daily dose of two capsules.
Elke Dag Mama contains a generous 30 mcg dose of vitamin B12 in the biologically active forms of methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin. The advantage of these endogenous forms is that they are better absorbed and remain available in the body longer than the usual synthetic form of vitamin B12 in supplements (cyanocobalamin). A very important nutrient during pregnancy is choline. Recent studies have revealed increasing knowledge about this. The formula contains a generous 110 mg of choline per 2 capsules.
Pregnant and breastfeeding women need more vitamin D. Elke Dag Mama therefore contains a generous dose of 25 mcg of vitamin D3. It's also plant-based and therefore suitable for vegans.
Women generally need more iron than men. During pregnancy, women need even more iron to support cell and tissue production. Elke Dag Mama therefore contains a generous daily dose of 28 mg of iron from stomach-friendly iron bisglycinate (Ferrochel®), an easily absorbed amino acid chelate from Albion (TRAACS®). Moreover, the formula now contains a generous 200 mg of vitamin C, which, among other things, promotes iron absorption.
It also contains a generous dose of iodine (150 mcg), which contributes to the normal growth of children.
