Vitals Cordyceps organicCordyceps sinensis, which has been used for centuries in the Far East, grows in Nepal at an altitude of over 3000 metres. Because Cordyceps only thrives naturally at this altitude, this mushroom is very rare. However, scientists have succeeded in cultivating this mushroom for use in food supplements. These cultivated mushrooms with the strain name Cs-4 are a sustainable alternative to the original wild Cordyceps.
Production process
Vitals' organic Cordyceps is cultivated under strictly controlled conditions. The Cordyceps mycelia (fungal threads) grow in a special fermentation tank on a nutrient medium of sterile, organically grown beans. This ensures a final product that is free from contaminants and unwanted microorganisms. After harvesting the mycelia, the last step in the production process is to dry the Cordyceps at a low temperature and grind it into a powder. The low temperature is necessary to preserve the natural properties of the phytonutrients present, which would be lost at too high a temperature. Organic Cordyceps contains the entire complex of nutrients present in the mycelium, standardised to at least 5% polysaccharides and 0.25% adenosine. These phytonutrients are considered the main active compounds of Cordyceps sinensis.

The active ingredients of organic food supplements are guaranteed to be of natural origin and not synthetically manufactured. In addition, the production process takes into account the environment, animals and people as much as possible. Various regulations define what this entails. Among other things, no chemical pesticides, artificial fertilisers or genetically modified organisms are used. The Skal Biocontrole institute checks whether the regulations are complied with and whether a product can be called organic. Organic products can be recognised by the code NL-BIO-01 and the European organic quality mark.
