The ease of dosing makes this vitamin D3 product suitable for the whole family. It's easy to determine the recommended dose of 2 drops for your children with the pipette and administer it with a spoon. Adults can use the 5-drop dose, provided their vitamin D3 levels are adequate. Inadequate vitamin D3 levels occur in the elderly, people who rarely spend much time outdoors, or people with darker skin. This group benefits from a vitamin D3 intake of 10 drops or even more.
For the whole year
In fact, vitamin D isn't a vitamin itself, but a hormone that our bodies can produce themselves. Our skin absorbs sunlight and then produces vitamin D, hence its apt nickname: the sunshine vitamin. However, the sun only shines brightly enough during the warm spring and summer months to allow our bodies to produce sufficient vitamin D. Due to the climate in the Benelux region, we are therefore susceptible to insufficient levels.
A balanced, vitamin D-rich diet could offer a solution. However, dietary levels of the hormone are insufficient. Therefore, year-round vitamin D supplementation seems to be the rule rather than the exception for the average Dutch person.
The best form of vitamin D is D3
The form cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) is found in animal-based foods. Animals produce vitamin D in the same way as humans, under the influence of UV radiation (sunlight). The form you consume from animal products is even the exact same vitamin D that our skin produces. Therefore, vitamin D3, compared to the commonly used D2 form, is the most readily absorbable form for our bodies.
