The Health Council recommends vitamin D supplementation from birth. However, newborns are not yet able to obtain sufficient vitamin D from food or sunlight. Therefore, very young babies need extra vitamin D through supplementation.
When and how much?
The national recommendation for vitamin D is to give children up to the age of 4 10 mcg daily. So, with the 10 ml bottle of Baby D, you'll have enough for the first year of life!
Vitamin D
Vitamin D is already known to be important for health, but this is even more true for young children. Especially during the growth and development phase, a child needs this sunshine vitamin.
Vitamin D3 in the correct dosage for up to 4 years
The Health Council recommends giving children up to 4 years old 10 mcg of vitamin D per day. However, the quality of the vitamin D form can vary considerably. The "sunshine vitamin" comes in two forms.
Vitamin D3 is the best form
One form is ergocalciferol, also known as vitamin D2. This is primarily found in plant-based sources, such as mushrooms. The second is cholecalciferol, which we call vitamin D3. This is the form that humans and animals produce themselves under the influence of sunlight. The latter is the most bioavailable form in our bodies and is therefore best absorbed. This is also the form we've incorporated into our Baby D.
