Vitakruid Symflora Junior Pre- and Probiotics for Children

Pre- and probiotics for children between 1 and 12 years
Every period in life requires a different probiotic that matches the needs of that phase. For Symflora® Junior, probiotic strains have been chosen based on the needs of children from 1 year of age. The junior formula can be easily and safely added to water.

What are prebiotics?
Prebiotics are the dietary fibers for the bacteria in our intestines. These indigestible dietary fibers are found in foods such as grains, vegetables, and fruits. Prebiotic fibers stimulate the growth and function of bacteria, giving them a better chance of survival in our body. In our Symflora® Junior, we have included prebiotics for optimal probiotic activity.

Six strains with scientific substantiation
Scientific research shows that multi-strain probiotics are more effective than single-strain probiotics.1 This can be compared to a team of people with diverse backgrounds. Due to their different qualities, they are able to help and complement each other.

Bifidobacteria are dominant in the intestines of a newborn baby, but the composition of the microbiome changes over time.2 In the first three years of life, a child's gut flora reaches a stable state, with Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus strains being the most common. Therefore, we have chosen a formula with six bacterial strains of these two types for Symflora® Junior.

High survival rate after 24 hours
Crucial for the quality of a probiotic is the extent to which the bacteria withstand the digestive system. During food digestion, bacterial strains are subjected to various digestive juices, such as bile and stomach acid. The acidity of the stomach can cause certain probiotics not to survive, resulting in fewer living bacteria eventually reaching your intestines.

Probiotic activity more important than CFU/g
Winclove probiotics, together with Maastricht University, published research showing that the (CFU/g) in Symflora® is relatively constant at the end of the digestive system. This means that the number of bacterial strains you consume has a high survival rate. They have higher metabolic activity because they generally remain undamaged after digestion. Metabolic activity therefore refers to the degree of activity that bacterial strains achieve during food digestion without being affected.

When selecting good probiotics, survival and metabolic activity tests are relevant indicators. It is often thought that the number of colony-forming units (CFU/g) is important, but this is not entirely true. What is the value of a large number of (CFU/g) if the bacterial strains do not survive our stomach acid before reaching their destination?

CFU/g The abbreviation (CFU/g) stands for colony-forming units per gram. This refers to the number of probiotic colonies present in one gram of the product. One sachet of Symflora® Junior contains 2 x 108 (CFU/g), which is equivalent to 200 million colony-forming units.

With ProbioAct® technology
ProbioAct® technology contains specially selected nutrients that contribute to the stability, survival, and metabolic activity of the probiotics. This is important as bacteria are fragile. This technology guarantees that the probiotics are stable at room temperature and resistant to the various digestive juices in the digestive system.

Vitamin D in children
The Health Council advises a daily intake of 10 mcg of vitamin D per day for children. The junior formula contains 5 mcg of vitamin D, so you already get half of this recommendation!

Sachet protects against moisture, light, and air
We have chosen to package Symflora® Junior in sachets. This has several advantages over other packaging methods. For example, the product in a sachet is optimally protected against light, air, and moisture.

Moreover, the probiotics in this product exist only in an inactive state to ensure their shelf life. When the unicellular organisms come into contact with moisture, they become active again.
