Vitakruid Symflora Baby Probiotics for mother & babyFor the important first year of life
Each stage of life requires probiotics that match the needs of that period. For Symflora® Baby, probiotic strains have been selected based on the requirements during the important first year of life.
The probiotics can easily be added to formula milk and expressed breast milk or spread around the nipple when breastfeeding.
Happy mother, happy baby
Symflora® Baby is not only suitable for babies but also for (expectant) mothers. These probiotics can be used from week 32 of pregnancy and while breastfeeding. After all, the nutrition and supplements you receive during pregnancy and breastfeeding are passed on to your baby.
Four scientifically backed strains
Research shows that a probiotic with multiple strains is more effective than a probiotic with only a single strain. You can compare it to a team of people with different backgrounds. With their different qualities, they can help and complement each other.
The first bacterial strains to colonize a baby's intestines are primarily bifidobacteria. With this knowledge in mind, Vitakruid chose a formula with no less than four bifidobacterium strains for Symflora® Baby.
High survival rate after 24 hours
Important for the quality of a probiotic is the survival rate of the bacterial strains after passing through our digestive system. During digestion, probiotics are exposed to various substances – such as stomach acid and bile – that aid digestion. Some probiotics do not survive the acidity of your stomach, meaning fewer live microorganisms actually reach your intestines.
Probiotic activity more important than Cfu/g
A study by Winclove probiotics in collaboration with Maastricht University shows that the (cfu/g)* in Symflora® remains relatively stable after passing through our digestion. In other words, the number of probiotics you ingest has a high survival rate. They largely pass through digestion undamaged and therefore also have higher metabolic activity. Metabolic activity, in short, refers to the activity level that bacterial strains achieve within our digestive system without damage.
To select a good probiotic, passing the survival and metabolic activity tests are relevant indicators. It is often said that the number of colony-forming units (cfu/g)* is leading. The more (cfu/g)*, the better the product. However, this is a misconception. Because what is the importance of a large quantity of (cfu/g)* when all the bacteria die in our stomach acid?
*Cfu/g The abbreviation (cfu/g) stands for colony forming units per gram. In Dutch, we use the term; kolonievormende eenheden per gram (colony-forming units per gram). The bacterial count or colony-forming units per gram represent the number of probiotic colonies present in one gram of the product. One gram of Symflora® Baby contains 109 (cfu/g).
With ProbioAct® technology
Bacteria are vulnerable, which is why Vitakruid chose ProbioAct® technology. This involved selecting nutrients that contribute to the survival, metabolic activity, and stability of the probiotics. The technology guarantees that the bacterial strains are stable at room temperature and that they survive the digestive juices in the gastrointestinal tract.
Sachet protects against moisture, light, and air
For the packaging choice of Symflora® Baby, sachets were chosen. This packaging form has several advantages over other methods. A product in a sachet remains optimally protected against moisture, light, and air.
Furthermore, the probiotics in this product exist only in an inactive state to ensure their shelf life. When the bacteria come into contact with water, they become active again.
