Vitakruid NAC 600mg N-Acetyl-L-CysteineA semi-essential amino acid
Normally, our body forms the semi-essential amino acid cysteine from l-methionine, but a lot can go wrong in this conversion process. Moreover, factors such as surgery, diet, rapid growth or strenuous exercise can make a semi-essential amino acid essential. The rate at which our body absorbs the amino acid then falls short of meeting our needs. To ensure that the body does have enough cysteine available under such circumstances, supplementation with NAC 600 offers a valuable solution.
Well absorbed due to acetyl
Acetyl is essentially a molecular part; the acetyl group is not a molecule in itself. We can draw the comparison with an arm or a leg, very functional within the whole of a body, but worthless on its own. Nevertheless, the coupling of acetyl with cysteine has great value within our body. Three properties of the molecular part ensure a more efficient passage through the cell membrane.
Acetyl is a lipid-like compound, which allows the intestine to absorb the molecule as a whole. In addition, the acetyl bond protects the molecule against oxidation, which results in rapid spread within the cell. Subsequently, the enzymes present in the cell can split the bond extremely quickly. As a result, the body absorbs n-acetyl-l-cysteine well, in contrast to regular cysteine.
Precursor of Glutathione
Glutathione is a compound of three amino acids (tripeptide) that the body produces from cysteine, glutamine, and glycine. The latter two are very accessible through absorption from food, making them not problematic factors for the formation of glutathione. Cysteine, on the other hand, is more difficult to obtain from food, which makes it the limiting factor in this compound. Moreover, cysteine is the active part of the glutathione molecule.
But if glutathione is so important to me, why don't I just take glutathione? Research shows that the body does not, or barely, absorb (reduced) glutathione. The gastrointestinal tract simply destroys the nutrient. Even dosages of three grams do not result in an increase in glutathione levels in the body. And since our body does absorb the acetylated form of cysteine, supplementation with the precursor of glutathione is more effective than intake of (reduced) glutathione.
Stable in the gastrointestinal tract due to gastric acid resistant capsule
N-acetyl-l-cysteine is offered in a gastric-resistant capsule. By supplementing this powder in a capsule, the formula remains resistant to moisture and light. In addition, the gelatin coating ensures that n-acetyl-l-cysteine is resistant to stomach acid. This allows the powder to reach the gastrointestinal tract without problems, where the n-acetyl-l-cysteine comes to full fruition!
