Unlike longer chains, these fatty acids are absorbed at the beginning of the intestinal tract. This means the liver has to put minimal effort into converting the fatty acids. Furthermore, our body barely stores MCT as fat.
MCT type C8 is the best form of MCT
There are four types of MCT:
- C6 (caproic acid): fastest absorbed in the body and rarest form in MCT oil.
- C8 (caprylic acid): most efficient fatty acid after C6.
- C10 (capric acid): slightly slower absorption than C8, but has a similar effect in the body.
- C12 (lauric acid): longer conversion process due to longer fatty acid chain and therefore less suitable.
C8
We consider C8 to be the most efficient fatty acid due to its length, among other things. C10 is absorbed slightly less quickly by the body compared to C8. While saturated fatty acids used to have a predominantly negative character, MCT oil falls under healthy saturated fatty acids.
Extracted from non-GMO and sustainable coconuts
Vitakruid MCT oil is extracted from non-GMO coconuts and sourced from Southeast Asia and South America. The oil is obtained through cold pressing and therefore does not need to be hydrogenated. This is a chemical process that changes the consistency of the fat. Oil or soft fat is hardened in this way. Trans fatty acids can be formed during this process. Vitakruid MCT oil is therefore 100% trans fat-free!
In addition, this oil is viewed less critically because the oil still undergoes a deodorisation process. This makes deodorised oil cheaper because for non-deodorised oil, only the very best coconuts are selected. Vitakruid MCT oil is not deodorised, so all good properties are preserved.
Palm oil-free
MCT fatty acids are mainly found in coconut oil and palm oil. Although MCTs can be found in both forms, there are differences. Palm oil has been embraced by the food industry as a cheap ingredient for all kinds of processed products. Cheaper MCT oils sometimes also contain a mixture of these two types of oil. Vitakruid MCT oil is based exclusively on coconut oil.

MCT oil safe in glass
The MCT oil is packaged in glass immediately after the first cold pressing, the only packaging material considered safe by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). This applies mainly to products (such as oil) that can react with their packaging. Plastic often contains plasticisers such as phthalates that make the plastic flexible and pliable. Depending on the type of plastic, certain plasticisers can leach in small amounts.
Less oxidation due to glass
The glass packaging also protects the oil from external influences that cause oxidation. This is why oil is often packaged in a darker (glass) bottle, so that the oil is exposed to light and oxygen as little as possible.
MCT oil or powder?
MCT is available in oil or powder form. Most research into the positive effects of MCT oil has been done with MCT oil. The most important thing is the quality of the product you choose. Low-quality MCT powders often contain added fillers and therefore have a reduced effect. MCT oil is, compared to MCT powder, the purest.
What can I use MCT Oil for?
You can use MCT oil in various ways. For example, you can add it to a (bulletproof) coffee, smoothie, or mix it with your oatmeal in the morning. Heat MCT oil to a maximum of 175 degrees Celsius; therefore, this product is less suitable for baking.
