MCTs (Medium Chain Triglycerides) are medium-chain fatty acids. Unlike longer chains, these fatty acids are absorbed at the beginning of the intestinal tract. This minimizes the liver's effort to metabolize the fatty acids. Moreover, our bodies rarely store MCTs as fat.

MCT type C8 is the best form of MCT
There are four types of MCT:
- C6 (caproic acid): absorbed most quickly in the body and rarest form in MCT oil.
- C8 (caprylic acid): most efficient fatty acid after C6.
- C10 (capric acid): slightly slower absorption than C8, but has a similar effect in the body.
- C12 (lauric acid): longer conversion process due to longer fatty acid chain and therefore less suitable.

C8
C8 is considered the most efficient fatty acid due to its length, among other things. C10 is absorbed slightly more slowly by the body than C8. While saturated fatty acids used to have a negative impact, MCT oil is now considered a healthy saturated fatty acid.

Extracted from non-GMO and sustainable coconuts
Vitakruid's MCT oil is extracted from non-GMO coconuts and sourced from Southeast Asia and South America. The oil is cold-pressed, so it doesn't need to be hydrogenated. This is a chemical process that changes the consistency of the fat. This process hardens the oil, or soft fat, and can produce trans fatty acids. Vitakruid's MCT oil is therefore 100% trans fat-free!

Furthermore, this oil is less critically viewed because it undergoes a deodorization process. This makes deodorized oil more affordable, as only the very best coconuts are selected for non-deodorized oil. Vitakruid's MCT oil is not deodorized, so all its beneficial properties are retained.

Palm oil free
MCT fatty acids are mainly found in coconut oil and palm oil. Although MCTs are found in both forms, there are differences. Palm oil has been embraced by the food industry as an inexpensive ingredient in all kinds of processed products. Even cheaper MCT oils sometimes contain a mixture of these two types of oil. Vitakruid's MCT oil is based exclusively on coconut oil.

MCT oil safe in glass
The MCT oil is packaged in glass immediately after the first cold pressing, the only packaging material considered safe by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). This is especially true for products (such as oil) that can react with their packaging. Plastic often contains plasticizers like phthalates that make the plastic flexible and pliable. Depending on the type of plastic, certain plasticizers can leach in small amounts.

Less oxidation due to glass
The glass packaging also protects the oil from external influences that cause oxidation. This is why oil is often packaged in a slightly darker (glass) bottle, minimizing its exposure to light and oxygen.

MCT oil or powder?
MCT is available in oil or powder form. Most studies on the positive effects of MCT oil have been conducted using MCT oil. The most important factor is the quality of the product you choose. Low-quality MCT powders often contain added fillers and therefore have reduced effectiveness. Compared to MCT powder, MCT oil is the purest.

What can I use MCT Oil for?
You can use MCT oil in various ways. You can add it to (bulletproof) coffee, smoothies, or mix it into your morning oatmeal. Heat MCT oil no higher than 175 degrees Celsius; this product is therefore less suitable for frying.
