Vitakruid Magnesium 200 citrateWhile magnesium malate is bound to malic acid, magnesium citrate has citric acid as its binding factor. Both acids are part of the so-called citric acid cycle. This biochemical system is responsible for most of the energy our body produces in its cells. Moreover, research shows that our muscle tissue absorbs magnesium citrate relatively well compared to other magnesium compounds.
Economical and easily absorbable
Magnesium citrate's action is thus similar to that of magnesium malate. The main difference, however, is that magnesium citrate is not a chelated form. This makes this form less stable in the stomach and intestinal system. Why then consider this option? That question is relatively simple to answer: magnesium citrate as a raw material is simply more affordable to purchase than magnesium malate. Therefore, we can offer you Magnesium 200 Citrate at a lower price than Magnesium Malate. The choice for Citrate can thus purely be budget-related.
User-friendly due to tablet form
Furthermore, we offer Magnesium Malate in powder form and Magnesium 200 Citrate in tablet form. Most people consider supplementation in tablet form user-friendly; there's no hassle with water, stirring, and mixing. So, if your preference is for supplementation in tablet form, we recommend Magnesium 200 Citrate!
Organic form
Magnesium citrate, -taurate, -bisglycinate, and -malate are organically bound forms of magnesium. Inorganic magnesium forms such as magnesium chloride, magnesium hydroxide, and magnesium sulfate are less bioavailable and are therefore less well absorbed by our body. For example, magnesium sulfate has a bioavailability of only 4%. This means that a dose of 200 mg of magnesium sulfate is effective for only a mere 8 mg.
Our daily diet generally contains inorganically bound magnesium. These are the forms found in the soil and absorbed by the plants we eat daily. Examples include magnesium sulfate and magnesium carbonate. Our body therefore absorbs only a small part of the magnesium we get from regular food. That's why supplementation with an organically bound magnesium form often adds value to your diet!
