Description:
Bioavailable form of iron bisglycinate
Bisglycinate is the most bioavailable form of iron. The structure of an amino acid chelate is so strong that our stomach acid cannot break it down. This is because the amino acids in the chelate form act as a protective layer for the iron. Iron bisglycinate thus reaches our intestines as a complete element, where our body then absorbs it. Moreover, we know that iron supplementation can sometimes be unpleasant for the stomach and intestines. However, thanks to the amino acid chelated nature of iron bisglycinate, such complaints are limited!

Always supplement iron and copper together
Balance is the key to the effectiveness of our mineral balance. Like a scale, the various elements in our body are constantly weighed. The minerals we know have various relationships with each other. For example, iron and copper have a so-called double-sided antagonistic effect. In standard Dutch, this means that increased iron intake can lead to decreased copper levels and vice versa. To prevent decreased copper levels and support iron transport, our Iron Bisglycinate Complex contains 50 mcg of copper in the easily absorbable form of gluconate per tablet.

Scientifically proven cofactors
Three supporting nutrients have been added to our Iron Bisglycinate Complex. Inadequate riboflavin levels (vitamin B2) often coincide with low iron metabolism. Furthermore, vitamin C, the nutrient we typically associate with immunity, promotes iron absorption from food. This immune-boosting vitamin also ensures higher iron levels in our blood, where we need this valuable mineral. Because of its dual effect, adding 200 mg of vitamin C seemed like a good defense!

Supplementing every other day prevents unfavorable bacterial growth
However, taking an iron tablet three times a day for weeks or months can lead to gastrointestinal discomfort, even with the immune-friendly iron bisglycinate. Recent research has revealed the exact cause of this. The small intestine absorbs only fifteen percent of the iron consumed. The vast majority ends up in the large intestine, where the mineral stimulates the growth of harmful bacteria that cause symptoms. The low iron absorption in the small intestine is linked to the hormone hepcidin. When the hormone's release into the bloodstream decreases, iron absorption in the small intestine increases, and vice versa. Research even shows that the liver releases more hepcidin for up to 48 hours after taking an iron tablet, resulting in impaired iron absorption in the small intestine. Therefore, supplementing with iron every other day offers a solution for iron-related intestinal discomfort!

Preventing hepcidin increase ensures better iron absorption
Gut discomfort isn't the only problem associated with daily iron supplementation. The higher hepcidin concentrations that occur after taking an iron tablet have another adverse effect. Increased hormone release limits iron uptake into red blood cells for about two days. In other words, after supplementing with the mineral, the iron tablets appear to be less effective in the 48 hours that follow. Research shows that most iron reaches the bone marrow, and thus the red blood cells, when supplemented every other day at a dose of 40-80 mg.

- Iron supports the production of red blood cells, is good for normal oxygen transport in the body and contributes to the production of cells and tissues
- Iron and copper have a beneficial effect on normal energy-yielding metabolism
- Iron and vitamin B2 are good for tiredness and fatigue
- Iron, copper, vitamin A, vitamin B2 and vitamin C have a positive effect on the immune system
- Copper supports iron transport in the body
- Vitamin A and vitamin B2 promote the availability of iron from body stores and are therefore beneficial for iron metabolism
- Vitamin C promotes the absorption of iron and thus increases the iron content in the blood
