Bioavailable form of iron bisglycinate
Bisglycinate is the most bioavailable form of iron. The structure of an amino acid chelate is so strong that our stomach acid cannot split it. This is due to the amino acids in the chelate form, which act as a protective layer for the iron. The iron bisglycinate thus reaches our intestines as a complete element, where our body then absorbs it. Moreover, we know that iron supplementation can sometimes be unpleasant for the stomach and intestines. However, due to the amino acid-chelated nature of iron bisglycinate, such complaints remain limited!
Always supplement iron and copper together
Balance is the word on which the effectiveness of our mineral balance relies. Like on a scale, the various elements in our body are continuously weighed. The minerals we know have different relationships with each other. For example, iron and copper have a so-called double-sided antagonistic effect. In plain English, this means that an increased iron intake can lead to a reduced copper level and vice versa. To prevent reduced copper levels and support iron transport, our Iron Bisglycinate Complex therefore contains 50 mcg of copper per tablet in the easily absorbable form of gluconate.
Scientifically substantiated cofactors
Three supporting nutrients have been added to our Iron Bisglycinate Complex. Inadequate riboflavin levels (vitamin B2) often occur together with reduced iron balance. Furthermore, vitamin C, the nutrient we usually associate with immunity, promotes the absorption of iron from food. The immunity vitamin also ensures a higher iron content in our blood, where we need this valuable mineral. Due to its dual action, we therefore considered the addition of 200 mg of vitamin C to be well defensible!

However, taking an iron tablet three times a day for weeks to months can lead to stomach and intestinal discomfort. Even with the gentle iron bisglycinate. Recent research has shown exactly what causes this. The small intestine only absorbs fifteen percent of the consumed iron. The vast majority ends up in the large intestine, where the mineral stimulates the growth of unfavorable bacteria that cause complaints. The low iron absorption in the small intestine is related to the hormone hepcidin. When the release of the hormone into the blood decreases, iron absorption in the small intestine increases and vice versa. Research even shows that the liver releases more hepcidin up to 48 hours after taking an iron tablet, which results in worsened iron absorption in the small intestine. Preventing hepcidin increase ensures better iron absorption
Intestinal discomfort is not the only problem we relate to daily iron supplementation. The higher hepcidin concentrations that arise after taking an iron tablet also have a detrimental effect. An increased release of the hormone restricts the incorporation of iron into red blood cells for approximately two days. In other words, after supplementing with the mineral, the iron tablets taken seem less effective in the 48 hours that follow. Research shows that most iron reaches the bone marrow, and thus the red blood cells, with every-other-day supplementation in a dosage of 40-80 mg.
