The green-lipped mussel owes its name to the light green rim along the outer edge of its shell. The mussel is found exclusively in the New Zealand waters of Marlborough Sounds, where it thrives in its pristine natural habitat. This green-rimmed mollusk naturally contains a high concentration of essential fatty acids and glycosaminoglycans. Besides green-lipped mussel, the patented Ovomet® also plays a key role in this formula. This eggshell membrane naturally contains collagen, hyaluronic acid, glucosamine, chondroitin, keratin, lysozyme, and over 500 proteins.

When processing green-lipped mussel into powder, the nutrient content remains the same. Essentially, you have a finely ground mussel; healthy in itself, but we can't attribute any significant health benefits to it. The amount of active ingredients is simply not high enough. By filtering the valuable nutrients from the mollusk quickly after capture, an extract is created, which has a much higher concentration of active ingredients. Moreover, the processing from mussel to powder and from powder to extract is very fast. This rapid extraction process allows the active nutrients to be better preserved. Unique eggshell membrane Ovomet®
Since 2017, Vitakruid has been collaborating with the Spanish research firm Eggnovo, manufacturer of the patented eggshell membrane Ovomet®. When peeling an egg, we discard the eggshell, but the membrane is a rich source of nutrients. Eggnovo therefore decided to use this part of the eggshell for Ovomet®. And in this area, they can rightly call themselves innovative. The company has a unique method for separating the inner membrane from the eggshell. During this careful production process, they directly process the delicate membrane into powder, without using heat. This preserves all the nutrients. Moreover, thanks to the sustainable development process, Ovomet® is produced environmentally friendly and completely chemical-free!

Within the egg, the membrane functions as a natural protective layer for the egg white.
