Cordyceps is also known as the caterpillar fungus because it has a unique life cycle. In nature, Cordyceps grows on insects, primarily caterpillars. As the fungus develops, it takes over the caterpillar. Eventually, the caterpillar dies, and the mushroom grows above ground.
Isolated from wild Cordyceps sinensis
Natural Cordyceps sells for a price of at least $40,000 per kilogram. Fortunately, after years of research, scientists have succeeded in isolating and multiplying mycelia (fungal threads) from wild Cordyceps sinensis using a special fermentation technique.
May bear the name Cordyceps
The fungus is cultivated in a natural nutrient solution. At the end of the growth process, the fungus has absorbed all the liquid, creating a powerful concentrate: Cordyceps CS-4. Scientific studies show that the chemical composition of CS-4 is almost identical to natural Cordyceps. This allows CS-4 to officially bear the name "Cordyceps."
