Astaxanthin is one of nature's most powerful antioxidants. It's produced by algae, plankton, and various microorganisms. Astaxanthin is a carotenoid, a natural pigment responsible for the yellow, orange, and red colors in fruits and vegetables.
The richest natural source of astaxanthin is Haematococcus pluvialis, also known as blood rain algae because of its deep red color. Animals that eat this algae develop a distinctive pinkish-red color, such as salmon, lobster, crab, trout, and shrimp. Some birds, such as flamingos, also ingest this pigment.
Important role in nature
Algae produce astaxanthin to protect themselves from stressful conditions like drought and summer sunlight. This allows the algae to protect their DNA, allowing them to grow again under more favorable conditions.
Moreover, astaxanthin is known to help salmon swim up to 3,000 kilometers against the current. High concentrations of astaxanthin are found in the eyes of birds.
Produced 100% naturally
For our product, we chose AstaPure®, the world's most sustainable astaxanthin. AstaPure® is produced under natural conditions at a GMP-certified site in the Arava Desert in Israel. Thanks to its stable climate, this region enjoys abundant sunlight year-round, clean air, and is free of pollutants. Furthermore, the remote desert location prevents algae cultivation from displacing crops.
Fully sustainable production process
The entire production process is powered by solar energy. Furthermore, the production process uses underground seawater, eliminating the need for potable water. This water is then 80% recycled. This makes the AstaPure® production process completely sustainable.
Green and red phase
Production takes place in two phases that mimic the accumulation of astaxanthin in nature. In the green phase, the algae enjoy optimal natural growth conditions, allowing them to reach their full potential. In the red phase, the algae are exposed to harsh conditions, causing them to produce astaxanthin as a defense mechanism.
Highest purity astaxanthin
AstaPure® is produced from the algae Haematococcus pluvialis, which contains the most concentrated natural form of astaxanthin. Combined with production at the remote location in the Arava Desert, this results in the highest purity of astaxanthin, namely 95% of the total carotenoids extracted from the algae.
NAXA® & USDA® Certified
Our astaxanthin is free of plastics, environmental pollutants, synthetic preservatives, and heavy metals. Furthermore, thanks to CO2 extraction technology, no solvents are required during the production process. Our astaxanthin is therefore NAXA® and USDA® certified.
