Vitakruid Acetyl-L-Carnitine 500mgA semi-essential amino acid
As a rule, our body forms the semi-essential amino acid l-carnitine from l-methionine and l-lysine, but a lot can go wrong during this conversion process. Factors such as surgery, diet, rapid growth or strenuous exercise can also make a semi-essential amino acid essential. The rate at which our body absorbs the amino acid then falls short of meeting our needs.
Vegetarians and vegans quickly experience imbalance
In addition, achieving adequate carnitine levels can be particularly difficult for vegetarians and vegans. The semi-essential amino acid is mainly found in animal proteins; meat and dairy are the main sources. So, if you adhere to a lifestyle with little to no animal products, supplementation with Acetyl-L-Carnitine 500 mg can be beneficial.
Highest bioavailable form of carnitine
As the name suggests, we exclusively use the l-structural form of carnitine for Acetyl-L-Carnitine 500 mg. From a biochemical perspective, the multifunctional amino acid has two forms, the l- and d-structural form. The body only recognizes the l-structural form (levorotatory form) as natural. The mirrored form, the d-form, does not occur in living material and is therefore referred to as synthetic.
Well absorbable due to acetyl
Acetyl is essentially a molecular part; the acetyl group is not a molecule in itself. You can draw a comparison with an arm or a leg, very functional within the whole of a body, but worthless on its own. Nevertheless, the coupling of acetyl with carnitine has great value within our body. Three properties of the molecular part ensure more efficient passage through the cell membrane:
- Acetyl is a lipid-like compound, allowing the intestine to absorb the molecule as a whole.
- The acetyl bond protects the molecule against oxidation, resulting in rapid dispersion within the cell.
- The enzymes in our cells can split this bond extremely quickly. This means the body absorbs acetyl-l-carnitine well, unlike regular carnitine.
A high dosage of 500 mg per tablet
In addition to the quality of the nutrient, the dosage is of course also important. A higher dosage simply provides more active ingredients and therefore more effect. Most acetyl-l-carnitine supplements contain between 250 and 400 mg per capsule. However, in the studies conducted with this amino acid, dosages between 500 and 2000 mg are maintained. Therefore, Vitakruid's Acetyl-L-Carnitine contains a generous 500 mg of acetyl-l-carnitine per capsule, and it is advised to take two to four capsules per day!
