Precursor of serotonin
The 5-HTP 100 mg product contains a unique, highly concentrated Griffonia simplicifolia extract with an impressive 30% of the active ingredient 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP). The Griffonia shrub is a plant species that is widely found in Central and West Africa. The seeds of this plant are rich in 5-HTP. This essential amino acid easily crosses the blood-brain barrier and is converted in the brain into the neurotransmitter serotonin, which is the precursor to the hormone melatonin.
5-HTP is an already converted form of tryptophan. The problem with tryptophan, however, is that it constantly competes with other amino acids for absorption into the brain (Fernstrom, 2013). This means that tryptophan must compete with amino acids such as leucine, valine, tyrosine, and isoleucine. In practice, this means that, on average, only one-fifth of tryptophan can be converted into serotonin (Fernstrom, 2013).

Usage
