GHB-Check can detect GHB in urine. This unique test can detect GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyric acid) in urine and/or other fluids. The lower limit of this test is 10 µg/ml. Since GBL (gamma-butyrolactone) is also converted into GHB in the body, GBL can also be detected.

What is GHB?
GHB is an odorless, viscous liquid with a salty taste. GHB also comes in powder form. The liquid is contained in plastic tubes, typically holding 5 milliliters (ml). GHB was originally an anesthetic. GBL is a variant of GHB. GHB is a combination of GBL and sodium hydroxide. GBL is a harsh cleaning agent, and sodium hydroxide is used as a drain unblocker.

GHB is sometimes incorrectly called liquid ecstasy (Liquid XTC, Liquid X, Liquid E). This is because the active ingredient in ecstasy is MDMA and therefore has nothing to do with GHB. Other names include G or "little tube." Due to a possible link to rape cases, it is also called a "rape drug."

GHB is consumed. It can be consumed neat, but because of its salty taste, it's usually mixed with soda, juice, or water. Mixing it with alcohol is dangerous.

Usage
GHB-Check tests for the presence of GHB in urine (or other fluids) through a biochemical reaction in the test cassette. After administering the required drops of urine, a reaction will occur in the test cassette. The result can then be read within 5 to 10 minutes. The amount of GHB detected in the sample can be determined using the included color chart. High concentrations of GHB will cause a dark purple coloration of the test line on the cassette.

GHB (naturally present in the human body in very low concentrations) is not detectable in urine indefinitely. However, if GHB use is suspected, urine can be stored (at a temperature between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius) for 48 hours before testing. The urine must then be brought back to room temperature before use. Urine samples can also be stored longer, but in that case, they must be frozen (-20 degrees Celsius).

Besides urine, other fluids can also be tested for GHB. However, high alcohol concentrations can also potentially lead to false positive results.
