Succesboeken Honest Medicine

The book Honest Medicine came about because the author's husband ended up in the hospital due to a brain tumor and underwent operation after operation. So many, in fact, that the wounds on his skull would no longer close. His wife and author of this book, Julia Schopick, found a special dressing online, which she had applied to her husband's head, causing the wounds to close in "no time." The doctors didn't believe it was due to that special gauze dressing. Not even when Julia had the inventor of the dressing, also a doctor, contact her husband's treating physicians.

The gauze pads were hundreds of times cheaper and more effective than the method the hospital was using, without results. Julia encountered a wall of incomprehension. Julia continued her research and discovered that there were many treatments that were much cheaper and more effective than what was currently being used in hospitals. Yet these treatments did not make it into the hospital. Treatments for liver diseases, MS, epileptic seizures (especially for children), lupus, arthritis, etc.
Were there financial interests that had nothing to do with health? What was wrong with cheaper and more effective treatments? Julia Schopick delved into the medical world and describes four treatments in this book. She gives a voice to both patients and doctors, specialists, and experts.

Her mission is to help millions of people access honest medicine: why pay more for ineffective treatments when cheaper and more effective options are available? When she became involved in this matter a few years ago, it was also her ambition to change the healthcare system. She has since abandoned this naive idea, because the "sick-care industry" does not want to change.
The "sick-care industry" is hard business, and there's no money to be made from healthy people by that industry.
The stories, experiences, and knowledge of the various doctors and patients (experiential experts) in this book can save and prolong many lives.

In the author's words:
"This book is not about portraying all pharmaceutical treatments as bad or ineffective. Many are not. And this book is also not about alternative treatments always being better than pharmaceutical products.
Again, many are not. And this book is not for people who listen to their doctor and follow every word out of their mouth as if it were the holy Gospel, or for people who listen more to other people than to their own feelings.
This book is rather for people who are demanding, who are open to doing their own research (or have someone who does that research for them), for people who are curious and who are open to new information. This book is also for people who have chronic and life-threatening conditions that have not yet been helped by the conventional standard treatments prescribed by their doctors. And this book is for those who realize that medicine should be patient-centered and not profit-driven. Very often I meet people who seem to think that there is no other way. That if there was a solution, their doctor would know about it. I hope that after reading this book you will know that this does not necessarily have to be the case. There are many excellent treatments that your doctor doesn't know about."

About the author:
For more than twenty years, Julia Schopick has been an author and PR consultant. She is also the initiator of the award-winning site/blog HonestMedicine.com. When her husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1990, Julia became his medical advocate and began writing on health and medical topics.
Her articles and columns have appeared in American Medical News, the British Medical Journal, Modern Maturity, and the Chicago Sun-Times, among others. Her mission is to use her articles and PR knowledge to inform the world about little-known but promising treatments through her website, social media, her presentations, and this book, and to empower people in their health choices.
