Herbal preparation of greater burdock (arctium lappa), sheep's sorrel (rumex acetosella), slippery elm (ulmus rubra), white watercress (nasturtium officinale), Russian rhubarb (rheum palmatum), brown algae (laminaria digitata), blessed thistle (chicus benedictus), red clover (trifolium pratense), water.
Ingredients Water (distilled), burdock (arctium lappa), sheep sorrel (rumex acetosella), red elm (ulmus rubra), white watercress (nasturtium officinale), Russian rhubarb (rheum palmatum), brown algae (laminaria digitata), blessed thistle (chicus benedictus), red clover (trifolium pratense).
Usage 1. Fill a stainless steel pot with 1.25 liters of cold water. Bring the water to a boil with the lid on the pot. Once the water boils, remove the pot from the heat and add the herbs from one bag, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon. Stir until the herbs are well combined.
2. Return the covered pan to the heat and simmer for 10-12 minutes. Then remove the pan from the heat and scrape any remaining herbs from the sides back into the liquid. Cover the pan and let the spice mixture sit at room temperature for 10 to 12 hours.
3. Stir the spice mixture. Place the pan with the lid on the stove and bring the mixture to a boil. Then remove the pan from the heat, wait 20 minutes, and pour the hot spice mixture through a colander or sieve. Reserve the spice mixture in a sealable bottle or juice jug. Any sediment will naturally settle to the bottom.
4. Seal the bottle or juice jug airtight, let it cool slightly, and store it in the refrigerator. The spice blend will then keep for approximately 3 weeks.
Drink Canadian essence a few hours before or after a meal, preferably before bedtime. Take a few minutes to do so. The usual dose is 2 tablespoons (30 ml) per day, preferably taken in the evening. For additional support, take 2 tablespoons (30 ml) in the morning and 2 tablespoons (30 ml) in the evening, for a total of 60 ml per day. The maximum dose is 60 ml twice a day, or 120 ml per day. Build up the dosage gradually.
For children over 4 years old, give 1 tablespoon in the morning and evening (30 ml total). For toddlers, give a maximum of 1/2 tablespoon in the morning and 1/2 tablespoon in the evening (15 ml total).
