Nova Vitae Vitamin E 400IU Vitamin E occurs naturally in foods such as sunflower oil, grain products, nuts and seeds, and fruits and vegetables.
Vitamin E is also added to other foods such as margarine and is of course available as a dietary supplement.
"Vitamin E" is the collective name for a group of fat-soluble compounds with distinctive antioxidant activities.
Naturally occurring vitamin E exists in eight chemical forms (alpha-, beta-, gamma-, and delta-tocopherol and alpha-, beta-, gamma-, and delta-tocotrienol) with varying degrees of biological activity. Alpha-tocopherol is the only form recognized by the body and therefore functional.
Serum concentrations of vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) depend on the liver, which processes the nutrient after its various forms are absorbed by the small intestine. The liver preferentially recycles only alpha-tocopherol via the hepatic alpha-tocopherol transfer protein.
