Nova Vitae Vitamin E 400IUVitamin E is naturally present in foods such as sunflower oil, grain products, nuts and seeds, and fruits and vegetables.
Vitamin E is also added to other foods such as half-fat margarine and margarine, and is of course available as a food supplement.
"Vitamin E" is the collective name for a group of fat-soluble compounds with distinct antioxidant activities.
Naturally occurring vitamin E exists in eight chemical forms (alpha-, beta-, gamma-, and delta-tocopherol and alpha-, beta-, gamma-, and delta-tocotrienol) with different levels of biological activity. Alpha-tocopherol is the only form recognized by the body, allowing it to be functionally active for the body.
Serum concentrations of vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) are dependent on the liver, which processes the nutrient after the various forms are absorbed by the small intestine. The liver preferentially restores only alpha-tocopherol via the hepatic alpha-tocopherol transfer protein.
