Devil's claw grows wild in the Kalahari Desert of South Africa. This distinctive plant owes its name to the curved hooks of its fruits, which, once they fall to the ground, attach themselves to the feet of passing animals, thus dispersing the seeds.
Plant description:
Devil's claw has no odor, but it contains substances that give it a bitter taste. It is a leafy perennial with branching roots and shoots. It has secondary roots, called tubers, that grow from the main roots. The roots and tubers are used in herbal medicine.
Nova Vitae Devil's Claw is made from an extract of the above-mentioned roots and tubers.
Several studies have already been conducted on the effects of iridoid glycosides (harpagoside), the active substance in this herb.
