Why is there alcohol in this product?
Alcohol is often used in making herbal tinctures due to its ability to effectively extract the active ingredients from herbs. Here are our considerations for why alcohol is used:
1. Efficient extraction of bioactive compounds: Alcohol is known for its ability to extract both water-soluble and fat-soluble components from plants. This makes it an efficient solvent for a wide range of bioactive compounds in herbs, including flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, and essential oils.
2. Preservation: Alcohol has preservative properties, meaning it helps preserve the herbal tincture and prevent spoilage. The high alcohol content acts as a natural preservative, extending the shelf life of the tincture.
3. Improved absorption: Alcohol is considered a readily absorbable medium for the human body. It can help efficiently transfer the active compounds in the herbal tincture to the blood, allowing them to be more easily absorbed by the body.
The dosage of an herbal tincture is typically taken in drops, resulting in a relatively small amount of alcohol per dose.
