Mattisson Organic St. John's Wort Extract 300mg St. John's wort is a perennial plant belonging to the Hypericaceae family. It can grow to about 60 to 90 centimeters tall and has oval, green leaves with small, transparent glands that resemble tiny holes (hence the name "perforatum"). The bright yellow flowers of St. John's wort bloom around the time of St. John's Day (June 24th), from which it takes its name. The flowers have five petals and numerous conspicuous stamens. The flowering tops are used to produce this extract.
The main active ingredients in St. John's wort are hypericins, hyperforins, and flavonoids. Hypericins are primarily responsible for the uplifting and calming effects.
