Chicory fibers organic What are organic chicory fibers?
The chicory plant is a genus in the Asteraceae family and is closely related to endive and chicory. Chicory was already used by the Egyptians for its positive health benefits, and during World War II, roasted chicory root served as a coffee substitute.
Chicory is a biennial plant. In the first year, the root grows, and the plant builds up a large energy reserve to produce beautiful, blue-purple flowers in the second year. This reserve is inulin, also known as chicory root fiber. For the plant, it's a source of energy, and for us, it's a 100% plant-based fiber. The organic chicory fibers are sourced from Belgium.
Vegetable fibers
Organic chicory is rich in fiber and consists of 85% prebiotic, natural plant fibers. Some of these fibers are polysaccharides, namely inulin (fructan) and pectin. This product contains approximately 70% inulin and 9% pectin.
How do you use organic chicory fiber?
Organic chicory fibers have a sweet, slightly bitter taste and can be added to yogurt, smoothies, muesli, salad, soup or sauce.
Mattisson chicory fibers are free from heavy metals and pesticides.
