Mattisson Organic ceremonial matcha powder

Organic ceremonial matcha powder from Japan.

What is Matcha powder?
Matcha is a green tea made from the young leaves of the Camellia sinensis tea plant. It is a traditional Japanese tea powder used in tea ceremonies and is becoming increasingly popular worldwide as an ingredient in various foods and drinks. Matcha is the only type of tea where the entire tea leaf is consumed in powder form.

The finest and whole leaves are destemmed and slowly ground into a fine bright green tea powder. The shade-grown process gives matcha its vibrant green color and unique flavor profile.

What is the difference between regular matcha and ceremonial matcha?
The difference between regular matcha and ceremonial matcha primarily lies in quality, taste, and use. Ceremonial matcha is made from the youngest and most delicate leaves of the tea plant (top leaves). Therefore, unlike regular matcha, the taste is rich, smooth, slightly sweet, and definitely not bitter. This makes this matcha ideal for drinking as matcha tea. If you want to mix the matcha powder into a smoothie or use it culinarily, it is best to choose the regular variety. Due to its high quality, the price of ceremonial matcha is significantly higher.

You can also observe the difference in quality between the two matcha varieties by looking at the green color. The color of ceremonial matcha is much more intensely green than that of regular matcha.
