Acai is a dark purple berry that resembles a grape, and consists of a whopping 80% seeds. Acai powder is made from the acai berry. The acai berry is a small, dark purple fruit that grows on the acai palm (Euterpe Oleracea). This palm is native to the Amazon region of Central and South America. The acai berry has been used for centuries by indigenous Native American tribes. Consuming acai berries fresh is nearly impossible due to the tropical climate. Once the berries fall from the tree, they can spoil within an hour. For this reason, they are only available in the Netherlands in pulp, juice, or powder.
