Acai is a dark purple berry with the appearance of a grape; the berry consists of no less than 80% seed. Acai powder is made from the Acai berry. The Acai berry is a small dark purple fruit that grows on the Acai palm (Euterpe Oleracea). This palm originates from the Amazon region of Central and South America. The Acai berry has been used for centuries by indigenous Indian tribes. It is almost impossible to consume fresh Acai berries due to the tropical climate. As soon as the berries fall from the tree, they can spoil within an hour. For this reason, they are only available in the Netherlands as pulp, juice, or powder.
