Maltese Tick Pliers
Ticks can transmit Lyme disease to humans through a tick bite. A sign of infection is a red ring on the skin around the tick bite. However, infection is also possible without this sign!
Lyme disease has increased dramatically in recent years. According to the RIVM (National Institute for Public Health and the Environment), approximately 25,000 people develop Lyme disease each year.

What should you do in case of a tick bite?
It's very important to remove the tick correctly. Use good tick removers!

1. Remove the tick as soon as possible after you discover it!
It's important to remove the tick as soon as possible. This reduces the risk of an infected tick transmitting bacteria.

2. Slowly pull the tick out straight up.
The tick should be removed without twisting or damaging it. Do not squeeze the tick, as this can cause the tick to release its fluid into the bite. Therefore, use the Malteser tick tweezers to remove the tick without damaging it.

3. Do not use oil, alcohol or fire to remove the tick.
This can actually increase the risk of infection.

4. Disinfect the wound after removing the tick.
Use 70% alcohol or iodine for this. The tick tweezers used can be disinfected in boiling water.

5. Note the date and location of the tick bite.
If it later turns out that you are infected, you can easily find out when and where the tick bite occurred.

6. Keep a close eye on the site of the tick bite for at least 8 weeks.
If a red spot appears on the body (this can also be in a place other than the bite), go to the doctor immediately and ask for a course of antibiotics.

7. Even if you develop flu-like symptoms without the characteristic red spot, be alert and inform your doctor that you have been bitten by a tick.
