Earwax protects the ear from dirt, bacteria, and dust. However, excess earwax can build up, causing a blocked feeling in the ear or pressure in the external auditory canal. It can also cause an itchy sensation.
Excess earwax can be caused by damage to the ear canal wall. Such damage can occur when cleaning your ear with objects like a hairpin, keys, or cotton swabs. Frequent use of earplugs can also contribute. Older adults and hearing aid wearers, in particular, experience increased earwax production. - Cleaning of the ear - Prevents itching and earwax build-up
