LoofCo dishwashing sponges are handmade in Egypt from the loofah plant, a biodegradable alternative to plastic dish sponges. The loofah fits comfortably in the hand and, when submerged in water, swells into a soft, flexible sponge. The sponge is gentle enough to clean non-stick pans and flexible enough to fit into a mug. With normal use, the sponge lasts for months, and when worn out, it can be composted. Each sponge has a convenient loop for hanging.

Loofah is a renewable resource that absorbs CO2 as it grows. The loofah plant is a vigorous-growing plant from the cucumber family, rich in durable yet soft and flexible fibers. When the fruit is ripe, the inside of the loofah fruit develops a network of fibers that is perfect for cleaning and scrubbing when dried. The loofahs are harvested, peeled, deseeded, then dried, cut into lengths, and hand-processed in Egypt. This method of processing is a natural tradition passed down through many generations.

Directions for use
Rinse the sponge thoroughly before first use. Use the sponge in warm water with dish soap, like a normal dish sponge. The sponge is abrasive when dry, but when submerged in water, it swells into a soft, flexible sponge. To keep the loofah in good condition, squeeze out excess water, shake out any food particles, and hang the sponge by its cotton loop to dry. Wash the sponge occasionally in the washing machine or by hand if desired.
