The skin is our body's largest organ and has many functions. It protects us from harmful external influences, serves as a storage site for nutritional reserves (fat), and produces vitamin D in response to sunlight.

A key function of the skin is thermoregulation, or our body's heat management. One way we cool down is by releasing moisture that evaporates. This is called perspiration, or simply sweating.
