Did you know that this plant is native to our region and grows in the wild? You can encounter St. John's wort along roadsides, grasslands, and forest edges. St. John's wort has radiant yellow flowers, blooming from June to September. Each flower consists of five petals and is speckled with dark oil glands filled with essential oil, resin, and the red pigment hypericin.

What is a macerate?
The name macerate comes from the Latin word 'Macerare', which literally means 'to soak'. Maceration is the traditional way to extract essential oils and other active ingredients from a plant for skin use. For maceration, the plant parts are soaked for a month or longer in good quality olive oil. The glass jars are sealed and placed in the sun. Gradually, the flowers release their oil-soluble substances into the olive oil. The macerate becomes increasingly red in color. After this period, the oil is strained and the macerate is ready. Good quality St. John's wort macerate should be deep red in color.

This macerate is a 10% solution of St. John's wort in olive oil.

A natural antioxidant of rosemary CO2 extract has been added to this macerate. This organic CO2 extract comes from the needles of the rosemary plant and is dissolved in sunflower oil. A small percentage of this natural antioxidant is added to the macerate by the farmer. Because fresh flowers, leaves, or roots are used in the making of a macerate, macerates are susceptible to fungi and other contaminants. This natural antioxidant benefits the shelf life of the macerate!

Active ingredients
Hypericum perforatum flower extract, Olea europaea fruit oil, Rosmarinus officinalis leaf extract, Helianthus annuus seed oil.
