The Virginia or red cedar grows primarily in the eastern part of North America. The name cedar is confusing, as this tree is actually a juniper. The wood is used in the manufacture of pencils, and the scent of the oil is reminiscent of this. In a lamp, Virginia cedar acts as an insect repellent and helps with respiratory problems associated with excess mucus.

On the skin, Virginia cedar slows sebum production and is therefore a good oil for oily skin. When using the essential oil on the skin, you should mix it with a massage oil or a rich plant oil.
