Lavender is an evergreen, woody shrub that can grow up to 1 meter high, with light green, narrow, thread-like leaves and flowers with a violet-blue color. Lavender is now cultivated all over the world, but the plant originally comes from France, Spain, Italy, England, Australia, Tasmania, and Greece, among others. The oil is extracted by steam distillation from the flowering tops and is colorless to light yellow with a sweet, floral, herbaceous scent. It is used in antiseptic ointments and as a fragrance component in soaps, cosmetics, lotions, perfumes, and as a flavoring in food and beverages.
