Pure form of the amino acid l-carnitine
Acetyl-l-carnitine is found almost exclusively in animal products. The body produces it naturally in the kidneys and liver from the amino acids lysine and methionine. L-carnitine is often added to infant formula.
A vegetarian diet is low in lysine and methionine. Acetyl-l-carnitine contains 2,000 mg of l-carnitine per daily dose (vegacaps) and is suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
