Pharma Nord Bio melatonin complex 290 mcg Bio-Melatonin Complex is a dietary supplement that contains 0.29 mg of the active ingredient melatonin per lozenge. It also contains 10 mg of niacin. Melatonin should always be taken before bedtime.
Using a lozenge prevents the so-called portal vein effect, which occurs with melatonin tablets. This effect ensures that 90% of swallowed melatonin leaves the body unused. With a lozenge, the melatonin is absorbed in the oral mucosa, preventing the portal vein effect. This results in 10x better melatonin absorption. The 0.29 mg dose thus provides comparable absorption to 2.9 mg of melatonin.
Bio-Melatonin Complex also contains 10 mg of niacin. L-tryptophan is used as a raw material for the body's natural production of melatonin. This same substance is also used in the production of niacin. By adding 10 mg of niacin, 600 mg of L-tryptophan is saved for the body's natural production of melatonin.
